Calorie Control & Diet Tracker is a health and fitness app designed to help you manage your daily food intake and reach your weight goals. I found it on Google Play when I was looking for a simple way to count calories without all the extra noise. The app has been around for a while and it runs smoothly on both Android and iOS devices. It shows over a million downloads on the Google Play store, which gave me confidence to try it. The download is completely free and you don't need to register to start using the basic features. You can just open it and log your first meal right away. There are some premium features behind a paywall, and I do see a few ads from time to time, but they don't get in the way too much.

When I use the app, I usually log my breakfast right after eating. The food database is pretty large and most common items pop up quickly. You can scan barcodes which saves a lot of time. I also like that you can set your daily calorie goal based on your weight loss target. It shows a progress bar for the day which keeps me honest. A simple tip I learned is to add your frequently eaten meals to favorites so you don't have to search for them every time. Also, I found that logging food before I eat works better than after, because I plan my meals ahead. It makes me think twice about picking up a snack when I see it on my plan.

There are many calorie counters on the market, but this one feels cleaner and less cluttered. I tried MyFitnessPal before and it felt too heavy with social features and lots of ads. This app just focuses on the basics and does them well. The interface is easy to understand without any confusing charts or graphs. For someone like me who just wants to track calories and not become a nutrition expert, this app is the best choice. It is faster to load and the design is more friendly to regular users who are not tech savvy.

features

  • 🍏 The barcode scanner works perfectly and finds most packaged foods instantly. I compared it with Lifesum and the scanner here picks up items way faster, even for local brands.
  • 📊 The daily progress tracker is simple and visual. It shows calories remaining in a ring that shrinks as you eat. This is easier to understand than the complicated charts in Lose It and keeps me motivated.
  • ⏱️ The app loads quickly and switching between meal slots is smooth. Unlike other apps that lag, this one feels responsive, which matters when you are in a hurry.
  • 💾 Offline mode lets you log meals without internet. I tested this during a flight and it worked fine. This is something that MyFitnessPal fails at because it needs a connection to work.

pros

  • ✅ The food database is huge and covers many cuisines, so I rarely need to create a custom entry.
  • ✅ It keeps a clean history of all your meals, which helps me see patterns in my eating habits over weeks.
  • ✅ The interface is not overloaded with community feeds or challenges, making it a focused and calm experience.
  • ✅ Compared to FatSecret, the design here feels more modern and the buttons are easier to tap on my phone.

cons

  • ⚠️ The free version has a limit on custom foods, which is annoying when you cook homemade meals.
  • ⚠️ Ads appear after every meal log, and while they are not aggressive, they do interrupt the flow. Lifesum handles this better by giving a paid option to remove them completely.
