Halloween Room: Sinister Tales is a hidden object puzzle game from HFG Entertainments. It is a single-player adventure type game. You can get it on PC and Mac through Steam. It is not mobile only. It is also not on Google Play or the App Store. You have to pay for it, usually around nine to ten dollars. There are no in app purchases. There are no ads either, which is nice. The price feels fair for what you get.
The game is played by finding hidden items in creepy scenes. You also solve small puzzles to move the story forward. Your character is trapped in a haunted room with dark secrets. You must uncover the truth to escape. The best part is the story. It is dark and spooky but not too scary. The scenes are detailed and full of things to find. My favorite part is the journal. It fills up with notes as you explore. Reading them makes the tale feel more real. The puzzles are not too hard. They take a bit of thinking but never frustrate you. The music sets a good mood too. It keeps you on edge but does not annoy you.
I have played games like Dark Parables and Grim Tales. Halloween Room feels shorter than those. It is less complex too. But it still gives a solid spooky experience. I recommend it for fans of hidden object games who want a quick tale. It takes about three to four hours to finish. That is a good length for a weekend play. If you like stories with ghosts and old mysteries, this one fits. It is not a top tier game, but it is honest and fun. I would say pick it up on sale if you can.
features
- Story driven gameplay 🔍 The tale is the heart of the game. You piece together what happened in the room through notes and scenes. It feels like reading a short horror book.
- Hidden object scenes 👀 Unlike some games, the objects are not too tiny or silly. They fit the dark theme well. You search for keys, dolls, and old letters.
- Puzzle variety 🧩 You get simple lock puzzles, tile matching, and pattern finding. None are too hard. This is better than similar games like Haunted Hotel, which can have tricky logic jumps.
- Atmosphere and sound 🎵 The audio is subtle. Creaks and whispers add tension. The visuals are muted and gloomy. It is less colorful than Hidden Expedition games but that fits the horror tone.
pros
- Smooth pacing ⏱️ The game never drags. You always know what to do next. Similar to Mystery Case Files, but shorter and tighter.
- Clear hints 💡 The hint button is fair. It refills fast and points you in the right spot. This helps when you get stuck in dark rooms.
- Replay value 🔄 You can replay to find all collectibles. There are hidden items that add small lore. This makes a second run worth it.
cons
- Short length ⏳ The game ends in under four hours. I wanted more story after the ending. Similar to Dark Parables, it leaves you hanging.
- Easy puzzles 🧠 For veteran players, most puzzles are too simple. I solved many in a minute. It lacks the challenge of Grim Tales.
- Linear path 🛤️ There is no free roam. You go scene to scene. This is less open than other hidden object games like Lost Lands.
