Zenless Zone Zero (ZZZ) is a fast action RPG. It is made by HoYoverse, the same team behind Genshin Impact. You can play it on PC, PlayStation 5, and mobile. The mobile version is on the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. It is free to download. The game has in-app purchases for new characters and items. You can play without spending money, but the ads are only in the form of game banners. Most paid items cost around $10 to $100 if you choose to buy them. The game just had its first anniversary update, so there are lots of free rewards right now.
You play as a Proxy, a guide for people exploring the Hollows. These are dangerous, twisted zones full of monsters called Ethereals. You build a team of three characters. Combat is real-time and very flashy. You dodge, dash, and swap characters to land big combos. Each character has a basic attack, a special skill, and an ultimate. The best part is the police system called "Chain Attacks." When you stun an enemy, you trigger a tag-team sequence. It is smooth and never gets old for me. My favorite thing is mastering the perfect dodge. When you dodge at the last second, time slows down and you can counter-attack. It makes me feel like a boss killing machine. The story is also fun, with a city vibe like Tokyo streets.
Compared to games like Punishing: Gray Raven or Genshin Impact, ZZZ feels different. Punishing has similar combat, but it is more punishing on mistakes. ZZZ is easier to pick up but still deep if you want to master it. Genshin is more about exploring a big world, while ZZZ is about fighting in short missions. I like ZZZ more because it focuses on combat action instead of grinding for hours on maps. The characters are cooler too, with a look inspired by urban fashion. If you like fast fights and stylish moves, I say try it. You will not be sorry you did.
features
- Chain Attack System ⚡ This is a fancy tag-team move when you stun enemies. It feels like a mini cutscene every time. Similar games like Punishing: Gray Raven lack this smooth group flow.
- Unique Art Style 🎨 The game mixes graffiti, neon lights, and street wear. It looks fresh compared to typical fantasy games like Genshin Impact. The music is also pumping and fits the vibe.
- Bounty System 🗺️ You can run different missions for loot. It is not a huge open world, but you get quick fights. This is better than walking around a giant map for ten minutes.
pros
- Great Combat 💥 The dodging and hitting feel super sharp. I never get tired of the flow. It beats slower RPGs.
- Fun Roster 🧑🤝🧑 There are many characters to try. Each one has a different style. This keeps the game fresh for a long time.
- Generous Events 🎁 The anniversary gives out free pulls. You can get strong units without paying. That is rare in this genre.
cons
- Grindy Endgame 😩 After the story, you need to repeat stages for gear. It feels like a chore sometimes. Similar to Genshin's artifact grind.
- Mobile Controls 📱 On phones, the buttons get crowded. My fingers slip during hard fights. PC or console is much better to play.
- Story Pacing 🐢 Some dialogue sections drag on. You just want to fight, but you have to read a lot. I skip text sometimes to get back to action.
